It sounds backward, right? We’re taught that a full calendar is the ultimate sign of success. But after helping hundreds of wedding pros scale to six and seven figures, I’ve seen a recurring pattern: the very hustle that got you to six figures is exactly what’s keeping you from the next level.
If you feel like you’re treading water while everyone else thinks you’re “crushing it,” you aren’t alone. You’ve reached the plateau.
Here is why it happens and how to break through to become a true Wedding Pro CEO.
Most of us start as freelancers. We love the craft—the perfect timeline, the packed dance floor, the stunning gallery. But when you hit that mid-six-figure mark, you can’t just work harder to get ahead. If your pricing is off, booking more weddings just means you’re working for pennies.
“A lot of wedding business owners think that if they’re booking a full calendar that their business is growing, but that is false because so often your pricing is off and so, you’re grinding out and you’re working for $5 or $7 an hour, which is not sustainable.”
From the outside, you look like the top dog in your market. On the inside? You’re answering emails at 2:00 AM and wondering how you created this monster. This plateau feels heavy because you’re terrified to admit you don’t have it all figured out.
“This stage of business can feel the hardest because you genuinely feel like an imposter. You have no idea how to get to the next stage of business, but everyone thinks that you’ve already got it figured out.”
If every single client question, networking event, and payroll entry has to run through you, you don’t have a business—you have a very demanding job. When I hit this stage, I was exhausted because I hadn’t built a team that could think for themselves.
“I felt like I was a juggler who at any time, if I just looked away for one second, all the balls would fall apart, and that was completely overwhelming.”
This is the biggest red flag. As entrepreneurs, we should be excited to sell! But when you’re in a plateau, a new lead feels like a threat to your sanity rather than an opportunity for growth.
“You actually feel completely paralyzed by the idea of taking on another client… because the idea of more work feels so overwhelming.”
If you aren’t spending at least 50% of your time on sales and marketing, your business is in the danger zone. To scale, you have to transition from the person doing the tasks to the person managing the people who do the tasks.
“What’s the mindset shift? You have to start understanding that if you want to grow a business instead of a job—an overwhelming anxiety-inducing job—you need to start thinking like a business owner.”
CEO, if you’re reading this and nodding your head because you’re tired of the 80-hour weeks and the “quicksand” feeling, I want you to hear me: You didn’t build this business to be a slave to it. You built it for freedom—freedom of your time, your finances, and your life.
The plateau isn’t a sign that you’ve failed; it’s a sign that your business is ready for a new version of you. It’s time to stop being the one doing every single task and start being the visionary leader your company needs.
Are you ready to stop grinding and start scaling? If you want a clear roadmap to get out of the overwhelm and into your CEO era, let’s talk. My team and I want to help you identify exactly where your business is leaking time and money.

Q1: How do I know if I’ve reached a plateau?
Answer: The biggest signs are working 80-hour weeks with no money left in the bank, feeling paralyzed by new bookings, and never being able to get ahead of your to-do list.
Q2: Should I hire more freelancers to help?
Answer: Hiring is key, but hiring wrong is a trap. You need team members who are trained with SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) so they can make decisions without coming to you for every little thing.
Q3: Why isn’t booking more weddings fixing my cash flow?
Answer: Usually, it’s because your pricing doesn’t account for the overhead needed to scale. If you aren’t charging enough to cover a team and a CRM, more weddings just lead to more burnout, not more profit.
Q4: What should a Wedding Pro CEO focus on daily?
Answer: You should aim to spend 50% of your time on “needle-moving tasks”—specifically sales, marketing, and high-level strategy—rather than administrative tasks or day-to-day operations.
